The Storage King Group was established in 1998 by Michael Tate and the late David Scanlen, whose vision and expertise shaped the foundation of the business. Tate transformed traditional property management into a customer-focused retail experience, while Scanlen’s financial acumen streamlined operations and ensured efficiency. Together, they created a unified, market-leading brand.
Today, Storage King, now ASX-listed as Abacus Storage King, continues to grow and honour their entrepreneurial legacy. Over its 25 plus years of operation, Storage King has become the brand name synonymous with solving the storage issues of this generation. The Group has grown to more than 200 stores, trading in most major metropolitan areas of Australia and New Zealand, servicing over 50,000 customers.
